Andrew gets his helmet
I mean seriously? How cute is this kid?
Andrew had his helmet fitting today, and it went very well. In fact, Andrew giggled so much during the appointment, that the doctor himself started cracking up and had a hard time getting the fitting done. But, it's finally done, and Andrew now has his lid. It hasn't been decorated yet, but that is coming!
He seems unfazed by it so far. He acts the same whether it is on his head or not. For the first day, he wears it only three hours. Tomorrow will be six hours. Then twelve, then eighteen. Finally, on Saturday, he goes to 23 hours a day.
We have follow-up appointments to check his progress on October 16 and October 30. He gets a progress scan on November 8 to see how it is working. We will be sure to keep everyone updated.

Sleepy Baby
Andrew has started sleeping a little better over the past few days. In fact, just a couple of nights ago, he slept for 10 hours straight. The night prior to that, he woke up only twice, and the night before that only once. We have also started having him sleep on his belly more, which he seems to like.
EDIT: The irony of this post? He woke up right after I posted it...

Some firsts!
Over the past few weeks, Andrew has been racking up a few firsts. He's got his first tooth, he's starting to learn the basics of crawling, and ate his first solid food today.
Andrew tried his first solid food today: green beans. He did a little better than expected, and he actually did eat some, but it didn't last long. We got a few smiles during the feeding, but mostly scowls. But, the best part: he did try!
Andrew has started figuring out how to crawl.
Right now, it's more of an inchworm-style crawl, using his head,
but he's getting there. Not sure if we are ready for that!!

Mid-September Update
It's been a while since the last major update, so here's a little taste of what's been going on with Andrew. Since the last post, Andrew has visited family and friends in Hilton Head, gone to work with Sam in Louisville, and put a few firsts under his belt (see the next post).
Just in case you thought Andrew was always happy and that we only upload smiling photos, here's an example of his heart-breaking sad face. |
We saw this huge chair in Hilton Head and immediately knew that we had to have a photo of Andrew in it. |

Andrew's Trip To Louisville
Andrew made his first plane flight on his way to Louisville, Kentucky, where he spent ten days having fun. Here are a few photos from his trip.

Rolling Fiend
Andrew has been rolling from his belly to his back for a long time now, but had yet figured out how to go from his back to his belly. Well, all of that changed this past weekend. He did it once, then continued to do it another 392 times over the course of a couple of days. It wouldn't be so bad except he HATES being on his belly for more than 10 seconds. He has somehow forgotten how to get from his belly to his back, too. You put him down on his back, he rolls right over, then starts whining a few seconds later. You pick him up, place him back on his back, and the shenanigans start all over again.
We came downstairs this morning and I placed Andrew on this playmat while I went to go make him some breakfast. I couldn't have been gone for more than 15 seconds and I come back to this.

He had somehow rolled over into one of the supports and took the whole playmat over with him.
This child is starting to become more mobile. Although it's exciting, it's a bit terrifying as well. I'm not ready for this!!
